Have you seen the Chief?
Jerry Doyle Sightings and con reports
Case 1: the case of Joe Rosa
I've got a hobby--I write to sports players, S/F movie people and people
off various shows on TV. I also collect hockey cards and most S/F
cards, so I send my duplicates off with a letter asking who ever, if
they would sign the card. Been pretty successful. Only need 1 card
from STOS, DS9, Voyager, and B5 plus 2 from X Files.
Well, I had sent Jerry Doyle 2 cards-4 weeks apart, wasn't sure if he
had received them (also his ex-wife too). Both of his cards (and hers)
came back around the time a convention was going to happen in St. Pete,
Fl. That's about an 8-9 hr drive from where we live in South Carolina.
The wife and I wanted to get away from the kids for a weekend-so we
went. He was great, never held back. He did apologize for a few things
said cause of kids in the audience.
The other guest was Denise Crosby, she was on first. She took questions from the audience as did he. Some
one asked why she didn't answer fan mail, the woman was upset. Crosby
never really gave a good answer to the question. Doyle was asked the
same question and said he did-I was proof of that! Anyway, while going
through the line for autographs, I mentioned to Crosby she should answer
her mail cause I had written her at least 5 times. She seemed shocked.
Doyle was sitting next to her and when it was my turn, I told him thanks for
returning the cards I had sent and also tell his wife the same. Told
him I had received her second card the day before the show. He asked me
where I lived, and I told him south Carolina--he commenced to tell the
city I lived in and my whole name!! I turned to my wife and asked if
she told him anything-she just stood there, with her mouth open and
shook her head no. Jerry Doyle turned to Crosby and said--"See, I read my fan
mail!". I didn't know what to say except thanks. It was a complete
shock to me. When we got home I wrote him a letter, not asking for
anything, just to say thanks for a great show and shared some of the
things he had said--got an 8x10 B/W photo, (in street clothes),
personalized. I've been to 5-6 shows and by far it was the best.
Because of my leg, we haven't been able to go to any cons, but plan on
going to Dragoncon in Atlanta next year.
So there's my story--and yes, it's all true--couldn't make this up!
